Nationally Recognized Fine Arts Department
As a 2018 and 2019 NAMM Foundation “Best Community for Music Education,” Oklahoma Christian Academy Fine Arts offers high quality instruction, increasing opportunity for involvement, and multi-layered productions at all academic levels. While many schools are consumed with efforts for constant advocacy and concern for arts support and enrollment, we are proud to serve nearly 90% of our entire student body in some facet of the arts. Whether students participate in our award-winning band and choir programs, thrive in the endless possibilities of our theatre productions, or explore and express God’s creation through color and form, the fine arts department at OCA creates a haven for discovery of the vibrant and rich cultures found within our country and beyond, boundless to geography or time. It is an honor to serve the students of OCA and a privilege to present them to you. Thank you for your interest in the arts at Oklahoma Christian Academy.
Fine Arts Director
Scott Filleman joined the OCA administration team in 2016, having spent time as a music educator in two states prior. He has taught elementary music, elementary and middle school choir, middle and high school concert band, high school steel drum band, music theory, and arts appreciation. Immediately before coming to OCA, Scott taught at an inner city charter school in Oklahoma City, where he devel oped a band program from 24 students to 416, earning a top-three placement in national band competition and top ratings in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Louisiana. His bands have played at major venues such as the Creativity World Forum, the Oklahoma City municipal Fourth of July celebration, by invitation for Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, as an honor band at the Oklahoma Music Educators’ Association statewide conference, and during halftime of the 2014 AllState Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. Scott also served as the executive director for a local arts-based non-profit organization for five years and founded a summer steelband camp open to kids in late elementary through high school. Scott is a nationally recognized music educator, having been awarded the “Butler-Cooley Excellence in Teaching” award in 2015 - an award given to only two educators in the United States each year. He is also named a Distinguished Alumnus from Oklahoma Christian University, is a member of the national music educator honor society Pi Kappa Lambda, and named one of MITs “Most Influential Teachers on an Undergraduate Student.” Currently, Scott serves OCA as its Fine Arts Director and band director. He also is on the adjunct music faculty at Oklahoma Christian University directing a steel drum ensemble. He, his wife, and four children are actively involved with the Edmond Church of Christ.
